Limerock & Shell Driveways in
North Central Florida

A rural Florida driveway lives or dies by its base and its drainage. JGH Enterprises installs, repairs, and regrades limerock and shell driveways — culverts included — across Starke, Lawtey, Lake Butler, Middleburg, Gainesville, and the surrounding counties. Most installs run $2,000 to $10,000, and most are done in a day.

What Driveway Work
Does JGH Handle?

From a fresh cut through the trees to fixing a washboarded drive that's been neglected for years — built with proper base, crown, and drainage so it lasts.

01 — New Installs
New Limerock & Shell Driveways

New driveways cut, based, and finished with compacted limerock or shell. Built with a proper crown so rain sheds off the sides instead of channeling down the middle.

02 — Repair
Repair & Regrading

Ruts, washouts, potholes, and washboard fixed by restoring the crown and drainage profile, then building the surface back up with fresh material where needed.

03 — Culverts
Culvert Installation

Culvert pipe at the road entrance and under low spots, sized and set so water crosses under the drive instead of washing it out. County entrance requirements handled.

04 — Drainage
Drainage Correction

Swales cut, low spots regraded, and standing water routed away from the drive. Fixing the water problem first is the difference between a repair that lasts and one you repeat next year.

Pricing

How Much Does a Limerock Driveway
Cost in North Central Florida?

Most installs run $2,000 to $10,000. A 200-foot new install with proper base prep typically lands between $2,000 and $4,000. What moves the number:

Length & Width

Material is priced by the load, so a 600-foot private drive simply takes more rock than a 150-foot residential one. Wider turnarounds and parking areas add material too.

Base Condition

A drive with a solid existing base needs a cap and grade. One that's been dirt-only for years — or a brand-new cut — needs base built from scratch, which is where cost climbs.

Drainage & Culverts

If water is what ruined the old drive, surface material alone won't fix it. Culverts, swales, and regrading add to the job but are the reason the new drive lasts.

Common Questions

Limerock driveway installation in North Central Florida typically costs $2,000 to $10,000 depending on length, base condition, and how much material is needed. A 200-foot new install with proper base prep runs $2,000–$4,000. Longer driveways or ones needing drainage correction cost more. JGH provides free on-site estimates — call 386-288-2212.
Limerock is crushed limestone that compacts into a hard, durable surface — the best long-term choice for rural North Florida driveways. Millings (recycled asphalt) are cheaper upfront but don't compact as well in wet conditions and rut faster under heavy loads. For rural and farm driveways, we almost always recommend limerock.
Yes. Culvert pipe at the road entrance and under low spots is part of many of our driveway jobs — sized and set so water crosses under the drive instead of washing it out. If your county requires a culvert at the entrance, we handle that during the install.
Most residential limerock driveway installs and repairs are finished in a single day. Long private drives, heavy base buildup, or culvert and drainage work can take two to three days. You'll have a timeline with the estimate before we start.
Every 1 to 3 years for most North Central Florida driveways, depending on traffic and rainfall. After a heavy rainy season, ruts and washouts are common. Regrading restores the crown and drainage profile before material loss becomes severe — catching it early is always cheaper than a full rebuild.
Both work well in North Florida. Limerock compacts into the hardest, most durable surface and is the workhorse choice for daily-use and farm driveways. Shell has a classic Florida look and spreads well over a solid base. We install both — the right call depends on your base, budget, and the look you want.
